The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) today presented its annual report and annual financial statements before Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Women, Children,Youth and People with Disabilities.Chief Executive Officer (CEO),Keketso Maema prefaced her presentation by announcing that in line with its turn around strategy developed in response to the disclaimer received from the Office of the Auditor General South Africa (AGSA) in 2008/09,and qualified finding in 2009/10,the CGE was proud to report that it had received a clean,unqualified audit from the AGSA for the 2010/11 financial period.The CEO presented in detail the CGE’s substantive delivery against the CGE’s programme of action for this period,in line with the CGE’s mandate to monitor,investigate,research and advise on matters of gender equality.
The Committee commended the CGE for its interventions in turning around the situation.Committee members noted with concern matters of emphasis identified by the AGSA,but expressed satisfaction at the measures put in place by the CGE to address these,and the substantive delivery on its mandate.
