With regard to ESKOM’s current initiatives, then, the gender aspects are clear cut.     Its current efforts at demand-side management are gender blind, i.e. they do not direct themselves to women as key demand-side managers, they do not recognize the gendered implications of electricity use, and they do not specifically include women or gender equality advocates such as the CGE in decision-making.
